crucial goal will be to upscale the manufacturing sector towards higher value
added activities and upgrade capacity in the provision of related services. The
focus will be on transforming industrial businesses and complementary services,
especially SMEs, into strong knowledge-intensive and value-creating entities.

Eases Ban On Rubber Wood Sawntimber Export
The Government has withdrawn the export ban on certain types of
rough sawn rubberwood sawntimber following appeals from the industry. From four
categories initially, the new ruling, effective II August 2006, now applies to
two categories, one of which comes with a slight amendment.

(SGCE) that was established in 2004
to cover new and emerging markets in the Eastern Europe such as Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine and Russia. The objectives of
the SGEE are to develop these markets for Malaysia's timber products in Eastern Europe in an organised and orderly manner as well as to

(SGCE) The Suppliers' Group for Central Europe (SGCE) was set up following the
MTC Working Committee's Market Visit in November 2003. The objective of the SGCE were to develop the market for Malaysia's timber products in
Central Europe in an organised and orderly manner as well as to demonstrate commitment to deliver quality products and services.
