MB proposes paper on logging procedures

KUANTAN: The state has directed the Forestry Department to present a paper outlining logging procedures in the state.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said the department was expected to do it in January, detailing a series of actions that would meet provisions spelled out in the National Forestry Act.

“The objective of the paper is to see to it that the forests in Pahang are well-protected and to ensure continuous timber supply. We want to have a proper sustainable forest management,” he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting yesterday.

Adnan said there was a policy on the matter now but the proposed paper would provide further explanations on the categories of forests in the state.

He cited examples of logging activities that were banned in national forest reserves and water catchments.

“However, the activities are allowed in state forest reserves but with limited felling,’’ he said.
