MTC has set up a Centre Of Timber Expertise (CTE) for the benefit of the Malaysian Timber industry.The objectives are to gather industry expert, who haveproven experience, expertise and knowledge in their respective field, under one umbrella and to offer their services to the industry as consultants and to serve as a referral points for the industry should they require expertise help or consultancy services. |

As this book is for the use of the layman, scientific jargon associated with timber identification is kept to a minimum. However, use of certain key terms in describing the features of the timbers is unavoidable. An illustrated glossary of these terms is also provided in this book for those who are unfamiliar with these technical terms. This book describes many of the timber species, both domestic and imported, that are more commonly used in the Malaysian construction sector. This guidebook is intended to allow the user, especially those involved in on-site contruction works, to have a first glance verification of the timbers delivered to them. It is not intended to make everyone an expert in timber verification. This book is designed to help the layman decide on whether there is a need to call in the experts.
