IF THERE’S A MALAYSIAN COMPANY WHICH HAS FEATURED CONSISTENTLY AMONG THE WINNERS OF THE MALAYSIAN INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR (MIFF) AWARDS SINCE THEIR INCEPTION IN 1995, IT HAS TO BE KIAN. THE KUALA LUMPUR-BASED MANUFACTURING GROUP HAS SCORED VICTORIES IN ALMOST ALL THE AWARD CATEGORIES SINCE 1996. AT THE RECENT MIFF 2008, THEY PROVED YET AGAIN WHY THEY ARE THE ONE TO BEAT.

Participating through Kian Contract Sdn Bhd, one of the companies under the Kian Group, the company drew upon their advanced manufacturing skills and inspiration from the Matryoshka nested Russian doll set concept to impress the judges.

By so doing, they walked away with the award in the “Dining” and “Outdoor” categories, which also landed them the overall Gold Award, of the Furniture Excellence Award. The group also claimed the Silver Award in the Best Presentation Award for Category 1 (booth size of 101m2 and above).

Chief Judge for the Furniture Excellence Award, Mr. Ian Howard Davis of Arcradius Design Consultants, although expressing his disappointment with the lower overall standard of entries this year, was glad to note that Kian’s design and manufacturing capability remained world class.

He complimented Kian for their highly innovative manufacturing technique in producing their decorative dining set as well as for their creativity in incorporating the stackable Russian doll concept in their outdoor Matryoshka chairs.

Incorporated in 1983 as a manufacturer of Rubberwood tabletops, Kian has expanded its business activities to include design, export,
contract, retail and distribution of furniture and home accessories.

According to Kian, the group has earned international recognition for creating workplace furnishings, particularly tables and chairs for the hospitality industry. Today, Kian products can be found in 98 countries, a testimony to the Kian brand being synonymous with quality and good value furniture.

Besides the MIFF awards, Kian has also won an accolade of other awards over the years such as the Malaysia Good Design Mark, Good Design Award – ASEAN Design Selection, Enterprise 50, Malaysian Emerging Brand Award and best booth design (Special Award) in DEX06.
