MTC Appoints New CEO

Mr Cheah Kam Huan has been appointed as the new MTC Chief Executive Officer effective 1 February 2007. Mr Cheah succeeds Dato' Ismail Awang who has retired after serving MTC as CEO for the past 9 1/2 years.

Prior to his appointment as CEO, Mr Cheah was the Senior Director in the MTC Trade Promotion and Marketing Division. He was also the Company Secretary to MTC, which he, together with MTC Chairman, Tunku Tan Sri Osman Ahmad, helped establish in 1992.

Mr Cheah has a long and illustrious career in the Malaysian Government service before coming to MTC. Among the positions he held were: Assistant Director, International Trade Division of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Assistant Trade Commissioner based in The Hague, Netherlands and Principal Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Primary Industries.

He holds a degree in Applied Economics from University Malaya (1972) and a law degree from the University of London (1989).

He was also a recipient of the Colombo Plan scholarship for a three-month course in International Trade in Australia in 1977. He is married with two children.
