Small Affair At Hout 2003

MTC participated for the fifth time in the Dutch Timber Day 2003. Held in Schiedam, The Netherlands on 30 October 2003.The Dutch Timber Day or 'Hout' is an annual event organised by Centrum Hout, the Dutch Timber Information Centre. It consisted of two parallel events namely a full-day seminar, and an 'information market' that featured an exhibition of timber products and services provided by timber-related industries.

"Wood in Movement" was the theme for the day-long seminar which consisted of six presentations mainly focusing on timber applications. Among the interesting topics presented were the use of timber in modern tropical architecture, role of carpentry companies in building projects and the concept of 'smart building'.

MTC was among the 44 organisations/companies exhibiting at the information market. Displaying some samples of wooden products and promotional materials, MTC continued to promote the positive aspects of Malaysian forestry and timber products including the latest development of the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) certification scheme. Among the visitors to MTC's booth were architects, designers, importers, students and journalists, with some of them showing a high interest in lesser-known timber species from Malaysia.

Hout 2003 was a small affair compared to the past events. It was attended by less than 400 participants including representatives from timber-related industries/ agencies, architects, specifiers, local government authorities, building and construction professionals, manufacturers, traders and importers.
